This weekend has been a very, very busy one for me. The grandchildren are leaving soon to go back to London, which is far away on the other side of the world. The children came to the Meadow to say their goodbyes to all the Meadow ponies and me. I gave Ellie-Rose a lovely ride across the fields and little Hannah sat on one of the Magic Horses on the Hill and fed him an apple.
After the ride the family had afternoon tea with the dogs underneath the Magic Tree while Ellie-Rose bounced on the trampoline. Kipper and Snoopy cuddled in laps but poor Maximo couldn’t jump into anyone’s lap because he had a very sore left hind leg. Last week, while he was running and leaping, he tore the cruciate ligament in his knee and had to have an operation to repair it. Poor Maximo! He has to take antibiotics and wear a special collar to stop him licking his wound and tearing the stitches out. I can tell that he is embarrassed about having to wear the collar. He is a very proud dog and doesn’t want anyone to laugh at him. Everyone is being very kind to him and telling him he is a very good dog. The children were especially gentle with him.
At the end of the day the children hugged me and said goodbye. They were happy to have had such a lovely day but sad to go. I will miss them too. When they come back to the meadow little Hannah will be big and brave enough to ride on my back.
